Camping - Keeping things Real

Make sure you book a camping trip this season

It would be safe to say that if you’ve never experienced a camping trip, that you have been robbed of one of the greatest pleasures of life.   That saying, “a bad day camping is still  better than a good day working” resonates with many campers across the globe.   Not only can camping provide you with a reset to your daily hectic life, but it can also help form family bonds, new friendships, relationships and can supply an over all sense of calm.   Camping offers the backdrop to getting back to the basics and really appreciating all the finer things in life when you return home.  I believe every child and every adult should make a point of grabbing a tent, gear, and the basics to set-out and challenge oneself to this experience.  Whether you buy the gear or borrow it, there is plenty of affordable stuff all over the place to get your hands on.  Basically, do not let that be your excuse!   There are of course some ways to embrace a good balance of roughing it and adding some necessities to help set yourself up or family for success.

  1. A good sized, easy to assemble tent.  You want to look for something that is waterproof / water resistant.  However, it is very hard to find a tent that really is 100% waterproof (at a half decent price) but there are plenty of tarps that help protect you and will keep the rain from penetrating directly on your tent.
  2.  A tarp – anyone that has camped, especially where there is rain, knows that the number 1 key to a successful camping experience – is keeping dry!  Grab a tarp and some rope.
  3.  Water – whether you fill up some jugs from home, or grab them on the way, having a source of fresh, clean, drinking water is a must.  A lot of campgrounds offer water and comfort stations, but you will always want to have your own source (especially if you’re a coffee drinker).
  4.  Sleeping gear (now, you don’t have to go out and buy sleeping bags and spend unnecessary money as you can bring some blankets, comforter, and pillows from home.
  5. Cooking source – you can pick one up for under $30.00 or shop used, Facebook Marketplace.  Don’t forget each site comes with a firepit so you can pack items, like hot dogs and basically cook on the fire (just bring a baking sheet and some tinfoil)
  6. Source of light – headlamps tend to work the best. They offer a handsfree choice so walking around at night makes it easy to find what you need, when you need it.

Shop Eddies sells RV and Outdoor gear as well.  So be sure to look at the following items.

If you have yet to venture out to a campsite, book one, even if it's for one night.  There is something to say about sleeping outdoors and breathing in all that fresh air.

Keep it real - try camping.
